Philip Cooke — Executive Director, Head of Operations & R&D
Philip is an engineering innovation specialist with over 40 years’ experience in heavy engineering across Australia, Singapore and Malaysia, with a strong focus on recycling and advanced materials recovery. He is the founder of Mattrec and the inventor and patent holder of multiple international patents, including the automated mattress recycling platform and associated process technologies. Philip and Cheryn are the principal stakeholders in Mattrec and remain deeply committed to the continued development and deployment of the technology.
Cheryn Cooke — Head of Logistics, Marketing & Communication
Cheryn oversees logistics coordination, mattress collection scheduling and facility workflow. As a co‑founder of Mattrec, she has been involved from inception through to commercial deployment. Cheryn plays a central role in ensuring operational focus, team alignment and clear communication across the business.
About our Technology
Mattrec is a fully automated mattress recycling process located on Dharawal Country in the Illawarra, New South Wales, Australia. Research and development continues to be part of Mattrec for over a decade. Mattrec holds the first international license to operate this machinery with full international patents granted for the world-first technology.
The innovative technology utilizes high-pressure water jetting and automated mechanical handling systems. Our process involves comprehensive deconstruction of used mattresses to its base recyclable materials including steel, foams, and fabrics.
